Preparation
- If using, cut the dried gardenia fruit open with a knife to release its aroma.
- Set a pot over medium-high heat and pour in the 5 cups of water. Look for small bubbles forming before boiling.
- Once boiling, add the dried gardenia fruit, dried chrysanthemum flowers, and 1 cup of sugar to the pot. Stir gently and bring back to a gentle boil, watching for a lovely golden hue to develop.
- Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 5-7 minutes. The tea should smell fragrant and floral.
- Remove the pot from heat. Let the drink cool for a few minutes, then pour it through a strainer into a pitcher to remove the gardenia, flowers, and any solids.
- Serve over ice for a refreshing beverage. Garnish with a mint leaf if you’re feeling fancy!
Notes
Avoid boiling the tea too long to prevent bitterness. Store leftover tea in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
