Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 Dried Gardenia Fruit 1 Dried Gardenia Fruit (optional) Adds a unique floral fragrance, can be skipped
  • 5 cups 5 Cups Water Fresh, filtered water works best
  • 1/3 cup 1/3 Cup Dried Chrysanthemum Flowers Use whole dried flowers for best flavor
  • 1 cup 1 Cup Sugar Adjust according to your preference; alternatives include honey or agave
  • 1/4 teaspoon 1/4 Teaspoon Salt Enhances flavors

Method

Preparation
  1. If using, cut the dried gardenia fruit open with a knife to release its aroma.
  2. Set a pot over medium-high heat and pour in the 5 cups of water. Look for small bubbles forming before boiling.
  3. Once boiling, add the dried gardenia fruit, dried chrysanthemum flowers, and 1 cup of sugar to the pot. Stir gently and bring back to a gentle boil, watching for a lovely golden hue to develop.
  4. Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 5-7 minutes. The tea should smell fragrant and floral.
  5. Remove the pot from heat. Let the drink cool for a few minutes, then pour it through a strainer into a pitcher to remove the gardenia, flowers, and any solids.
  6. Serve over ice for a refreshing beverage. Garnish with a mint leaf if you’re feeling fancy!

Notes

Avoid boiling the tea too long to prevent bitterness. Store leftover tea in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
