  • 5 tablespoons granulated sugar, divided You’ll use 1 tbsp for the yeast.
  • 1 envelope active dry yeast About 2 and 1/4 teaspoons.
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature Helps create a richer dough.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Gives the dough a rich flavor.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Use a high-quality brand like King Arthur.
  • 1 cup bread flour Helps create a chewy texture.
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
Filling and Frosting
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened For a creamy filling.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened For the filling.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Sweetens the filling.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds depth of flavor.
  • 1/2 cup strawberry preserves Homemade or store-bought.
  • 3 ounces cream cheese, softened For the frosting.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened For the frosting.
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar For that perfect sweetness.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a stand mixer bowl, combine warm milk, 1 tbsp sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add beaten eggs, softened butter, remaining sugar, both flours, and kosher salt. Mix on low speed for about 5 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  3. Grease a large bowl with cooking spray, and place the dough inside. Cover it and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
Assembly
  1. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Roll it out into a 10x15-inch rectangle on a floured surface.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat together cream cheese, softened butter, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Spread this mixture over the dough and top it with the strawberry preserves.
  3. Roll the dough tightly from the long edge and cut into 9 equal rolls. Place them in a greased baking dish, and let them rise again for about 1 hour.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F. Bake the rolls for 35-40 minutes, or until they’re golden brown.
  2. While the rolls are baking, make the frosting by mixing remaining cream cheese, butter, and confectioners' sugar until light and fluffy. Spread over the top of the rolls once cooled slightly.
