Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Defrost the puff pastry according to package instructions. Transfer one sheet onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Gently melt the Nutella over a double boiler or in the microwave for about 20 seconds.
- Spoon the melted Nutella onto the puff pastry sheet, spreading it evenly to the edges.
- Place the second puff pastry sheet on top of the Nutella-covered sheet. Dust lightly with flour.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the dough into a triangle starting from the top down to each corner to form a tree shape.
- Roll out any leftover scraps and cut them into star shapes for decoration.
- Pinch the two triangles of puff pastry together at the trunk and trim the bottom.
- Make diagonal cuts along each side of the tree, about one inch apart, and twist each piece gently to form branches.
- Mix the egg and water to create your egg wash and brush it over the entire tree and the star shapes.
- Bake for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Once out of the oven, dust generously with icing sugar before serving.
Notes
Keep an eye on your puff pastry as it bakes; every oven is different. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze the unbaked tree for up to a month.
