Cooking the Sauce

- Add the canned tomatoes with their juices, sugar, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
- Break up the tomatoes with a spoon, stirring the mixture together, and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens.
- Adjust the seasoning as per your taste and serve with freshly torn basil on top.
Notes
Serve over al dente spaghetti and pair with light-bodied red wine like Chianti.
