  • 1 9-inch angel food cake, cut into bite-size cubes About 7 cups, divided.
  • 1.25 cups orange curd, store-bought or homemade Divided.
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream Let sit at room temperature for best volume.
  • 0.5 cups confectioners' sugar Sift before adding to avoid lumps.
  • to taste Mint For garnish, optional.
  • to taste Orange slices For garnish, optional.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, add the heavy cream. Mix at low speed, gradually increasing it to medium.
  2. After 3-5 minutes, when it starts to thicken, reduce the speed back to low and slowly add confectioners' sugar.
  3. Increase speed to medium, then high, mixing until soft peaks form, approximately 7-10 minutes.
Layering
  1. In a large trifle bowl, layer one-third of the angel food cake cubes.
  2. Spread one-third of the whipped cream over the cake.
  3. Add half of the orange curd, creating a beautiful layer.
  4. Repeat the layers with another one-third of the cake, whipped cream, and remaining orange curd.
  5. Finish with the last of the cake cubes and top with the remaining whipped cream.
Chilling and Serving
  1. You can serve immediately or refrigerate for a couple of hours to let flavors meld.
  2. Garnish with mint and orange slices before serving.

Notes

Make ahead for best results and store leftovers covered for 2-3 days. Avoid over-whipping the cream.
