Ingredients
  

For the Dough
  • 1 cup water, warmed (about 105 to 110 degrees F) Warm water helps activate the yeast without killing it.

  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast Ensure it’s fresh for best results.
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil, divided Neutral oil like Canola or Olive oil works.
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour Measure with a scale for consistency.
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt Key ingredient for flavor.
For the Topping
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted Unsalted allows you to control seasoning.
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed Gives caramel flavor.
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon Adds the holiday flavor.
For the Frosting
  • 2 ounces cream cheese, softened At room temperature for easy mixing.
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened Room temperature is key for a smooth frosting.
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar Adds sweetness and frosting texture.
  • 2 tablespoons milk Use whole milk for a richer flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds aroma and depth of flavor.
  • 1 pinch kosher salt Balances sweetness.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it rest for about 5 minutes, or until frothy.
  2. Pour half of the vegetable oil into the yeast mixture and mix. Add the flour and salt, stirring until just combined.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Add the dough to a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap or a damp towel, and let it rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
  5. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
Topping and Baking
  1. In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, light brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  2. Pour the remaining oil into a 9x11 inch baking pan, coating evenly.
  3. Gently punch down the risen dough, transfer it to the prepared pan, and spread it to the edges.
  4. Dimple the dough with your fingertips, then pour the cinnamon sugar butter mixture over it.
  5. Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
Frosting and Serving
  1. Combine the softened cream cheese, butter, confectioners' sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and salt in a medium bowl and mix until smooth.
  2. Drizzle the frosting over the warm focaccia once it’s out of the oven. Serve warm.
