Ingredients

For the Chicken Taco Seasoning
  • 4 tbsp chili powder Use high-quality chili powder for a more robust flavor; I recommend McCormick.
  • 2 tbsp ground cumin Cumin gives it that unique earthy flavor; consider using fresh ground for an extra boost.
  • 2 tbsp onion powder Select organic if possible for a natural sweetness.
  • 2 tbsp smoked paprika Smoked paprika adds depth; P smoked paprika can be found in most spice aisles.
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder Garlic powder provides that aromatic punch.
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano Italian or Mexican oregano can work—both add a unique flavor.
  • 2 tbsp kosher salt Feel free to adjust based on your dietary needs; you can use sea salt, too.
  • 1/2 tbsp black pepper For those who like a bit of heat.

Method

Mixing the Spices
  1. Start by thoroughly mixing all the spices together in a bowl. Use a whisk or a fork to ensure everything is well combined. This process should take about 3-5 minutes.
  2. Keep an eye out for clumps in the onion powder and garlic powder; the better combined they are, the more evenly flavored your seasoning will be!
Transferring to Storage
  1. Once mixed, carefully transfer your homemade seasoning into an airtight jar or container. This step is important as it keeps your seasoning fresh for longer.
  2. Label the jar with the date—you’ll want to use this lovely blend within 6 months for the best flavor!
Storing
  1. Store your Chicken Taco Seasoning in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight. It should be good for 6 months.
Using the Seasoning
  1. Sprinkle this deliciousness onto your chicken tacos or any dish that could use a flavor boost.

Notes

Always opt for fresh, high-quality spices for the best flavor. Whip up a batch on the weekend and store it for quick access during busy weekdays. Feel free to experiment with heat levels!
