Method
Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast; let rest for 5 minutes until bubbly and frothy.
- Add half of the vegetable oil, 2 1/2 cups flour, and salt to the yeast mixture, stirring until it forms a soft, sticky dough.
- Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for 1 hour in a warm spot until doubled in size.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a 12-inch pizza pan with parchment paper.
- Pour the remaining vegetable oil onto the prepared pan, shape the risen dough into the pan, and bake for 10 minutes until lightly golden.
- In a small bowl, combine melted butter with sugar, then brush this mixture over the baked crust. Spread the cherry pie filling evenly on top.
- In another mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugars, and salt for the crumble. Add the melted butter and mix until clumps form.
- Evenly sprinkle the crumble over the cherry filling and bake for another 13-15 minutes until it turns golden brown.
Finishing Touches
- Whisk together confectioners' sugar, milk, and almond extract for the glaze; drizzle it generously over your warm pizza.
- Let your Cherry Dessert Pizza cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing it up and serving.
Notes
Keep an eye on the crumble as it bakes; you want it to be nicely golden but not too dark. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days or in the fridge for a week.
