Ingredients

Dough and Base Components
  • 1 cup warm water (about 105°F to 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil, divided
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus 1 cup for crumble topping
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted Ensure it's at room temperature.
Cherry Filling
  • 1 can cherry pie filling (21 ounces) or homemade (about 2 cups) Using high-quality cherries enhances flavor.
Crumble Topping
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted, cooled slightly
Glaze
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 tablespoon whole milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract Can be omitted or substituted with vanilla extract.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast; let rest for 5 minutes until bubbly and frothy.
  2. Add half of the vegetable oil, 2 1/2 cups flour, and salt to the yeast mixture, stirring until it forms a soft, sticky dough.
  3. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for 1 hour in a warm spot until doubled in size.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a 12-inch pizza pan with parchment paper.
  2. Pour the remaining vegetable oil onto the prepared pan, shape the risen dough into the pan, and bake for 10 minutes until lightly golden.
  3. In a small bowl, combine melted butter with sugar, then brush this mixture over the baked crust. Spread the cherry pie filling evenly on top.
  4. In another mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugars, and salt for the crumble. Add the melted butter and mix until clumps form.
  5. Evenly sprinkle the crumble over the cherry filling and bake for another 13-15 minutes until it turns golden brown.
Finishing Touches
  1. Whisk together confectioners' sugar, milk, and almond extract for the glaze; drizzle it generously over your warm pizza.
  2. Let your Cherry Dessert Pizza cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing it up and serving.

Notes

Keep an eye on the crumble as it bakes; you want it to be nicely golden but not too dark. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days or in the fridge for a week.
