Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 medium head cauliflower Look for firm, white heads.
  • 3/4 cup water This helps steam the cauliflower.
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter Best to use unsalted for better control over seasoning.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Fresh minced garlic can be used for more flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika Smoked paprika will deliver an exciting twist.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Adjust based on preference.
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper Freshly cracked enhances flavor.
  • 1/3 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese Aged cheddar can add richer taste.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by washing and cutting the cauliflower into small, bite-sized florets.
  2. Heat a large pan over medium heat. Add the cauliflower and pour in the 3/4 cup water. Lower the heat slightly, cover, and steam for 5 to 6 minutes until tender.
  3. Uncover and add the butter, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Toss the florets gently.
  4. Spread the florets in a single layer in the pan. Allow them to caramelize for 2 minutes at a time until golden brown. Repeat until evenly caramelized.
  5. Once caramelized, turn off the heat and sprinkle grated cheddar over the top. Toss gently to coat, then cover the pan for 1 minute to let the cheese melt.
  6. Uncover and season to taste with additional salt and pepper if needed. Serve warm.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat gently to maintain texture. You can add lemon juice or zest at the end for brightness.
